Dan and I were friends back when the earth was touched with gold,
long before imagining that anyone grows old.
The rich girls made us dizzy and romance kept us busy
and sweet soul music played the radio.
It was the last time life was easy, the last time life was smooth,
and we could ask life anything and never be refused
When Dan and I were friends we thought the earth was still brand new
Our elders had no hold on us, we were so sure of what we knew
The 60’s was beginning, and a war no one was winning, and for a while
it all stayed far away.

in a time before we knew the damage time itself could do.
And now I see, on looking back, how golden were those days,
before we had to find that certain prices must be paid.
It was a time of easy laughter, a time of hanging out, a time we thought we knew
what life itself was all about

hopes all things, endures all things,
Love never fails
Love is how you live, life is not in getting but in how you give.
God says we can live abundantly so we can go and help to set our neighbors free.
